American Film Institute

http://www.afi.com

Workshops, history, events, special screenings, courses – it’s all here at the AFI site. It is not for the casual film-goer, but a great site for the serious devotee or anyone in, or aspiring to be part of, the film industry. There’s information here you won’t find anywhere else. The AFI is dedicated to preserving America’s film heritage and fostering and training future generations of filmmakers. The site is full of valuable and interesting information from the AFI screenings of classic films to education, movie quotes, top 100 films, podcasts, community activities… there is so much here for anyone who takes film seriously.

Australian Centre for the Moving Image

http://www.acmi.net.au

An umbrella body for film, television, computer games and other visual media, the ACMI is a government-funded organisation dedicated to promoting and preserving Australia’s visual arts culture. The site contains articles, references, information on exhibitions and special screenings.

British Film Institute

http://www.bfi.org.uk

Great site! If you want to research UK films, browse their interesting collection of books on film or film-related products, learn more about film and television or keep up-to-date with what’s happening in the film world, this is the site to use. Their archives are marvellous and you can even download short films you will be hard-pressed to find elsewhere.

National Film and Sound Archive

http://www.nfsa.afc.gov.au/screensound/screenso.nsf

An Australian site, complementary to the ACMI. There are similar objectives in preserving and promoting visual culture, but the remit of the National Film and Sound Archive is broader than that of the ACMI, and it is under direct government responsibility. The purpose of the National Film and Sound Archive is to preserve all Australian output. The site has information on exhibitions, articles, screenings, detailed information on the Archive for visitors and a good search facility to help you find just what you’re looking for among the Archive’s 1.3 million items.

National Film Archive of India

http://nfaipune.nic.in

Research, cultural preservation and promotion of film are just some of the aims pf the NFAI. The site is simple, quick and a good starting point for anyone interested in the story of film in India – and its future.
