British Pathé

http://www.britishpathe.com

Perhaps not strictly a film site, but British Pathé was an important aspect of the cinema experience, especially for UK audiences. A wonderful site. Clips, previews, stills, information and a wealth of historical information from this great institution.

Gaumont Museum

http://www.gaumont-le-musee.fr

A beautiful site, constructed as a virtual tour of the Grand Palace cinema. Stars of films past and stars of French cinema today, historical programmes, posters, sets, costumes, décor are all part of the wonderful tour of the Gaumont Museum. It can be a little frustrating if you don’t read French but relax and take the tour and you’ll get through. Language - French

Gaumont Pathe

http://www.gaumontpathearchives.com

Whether you are after historical footage from the Gaumont-Pathe newsreel archives, or contemporary footage from partner archives, this is a fascinating site. The footage is not free and the fee varies from footage to footage, but there is a wealth of first-hand observation and insight into the events of the last 100 years. Language – French and English.

Internet Archive

http://www.archive.org/details/feature_films

Another wonderful resource. You can legally download films which have fallen into the public domain. You may be surprised at what films have passed from copyright protection to public domain. There are also newsreels and shorts, many pre-dating the advent of sound. The site exists principally to ensure there is a lasting collection of our cultural products.

National Media Museum

http://www.nationalmediamuseum.org.uk

The promotes the actual museum and provides all the information you need about current and forthcoming exhibitions.  In addition, there is a news section and tips on how to make the most of your visit.
