CineMedia

One of the difficulties facing anyone publishing an online directory of web sites is listing sites which expire. A number of the links are to sites which are defunct or  unavailable. Some of the categorisation is baffling, there is an absence of any annotation about the links and the less said about the design, the better. Be aware that when you select a link, CineMedia remains the active browser window and the linked site opens within CineMedia. For anyone doing serious research, it is annoying not to have multiple links active simultaneously, in their window.  Nonetheless, this is useful resource for finding film-related web sites.

Cinemaspot

http://www.cinemaspot.com

A useful site, light on the graphics, so it is quick to load and navigate. It has a good set of links and references which focus on the filmmaking, screenwriting, festivals, schools, and so on. It doesn’t neglect the fun side, though, with lists, reviews, chat and the like.

Britfilms.com

http://www.britfilms.com

Run by the British Council, this is an essential reference for current and aspiring film professionals. There’s industry news and resources, catalogues of British films, biographies of directors, reviews, films in production, production notes and much more.

The La-La Land Library

Ignore the name and the atrocious design, this is a good list of references to online sites about film and the industry. It is by no means comprehensive and some of the inclusions are dubious, but it is a great starting point.
