  Information and Statistics

Box Office Report

http://www.boxofficereport.com

Attendance figures, box office receipts, previews and historical box office data make this a valuable film reference site. It also has a rather good set of links.

Boxoffice.com

http://www.boxoffice.com/

Another useful site, with box office data, reviews, articles on film, distribution and production news, release dates and even Podcasts.

Internet Movie Database (IMDb)

http://us.imdb.com

The best place on the web for general film information. It was an invaluable resource and reference during the development of Cinematique™. For those truly serious about having access to an in-depth film reference, IMBd Pro is well worth the subscription fee.

Lee’s Movie Info

http://www.leesmovieinfo.net

Another site with top-line stats and box office charts that also contains previews, performance predictions, DVD releases, links to some fan sites and even an online game. Worth a look.

Quigley Publishing

http://www.quigleypublishing.com

You won’t find a lot of information you can immediately use as the purpose of the site is to sell and promote Quigley’s two major products: The International Motion Picture Almanac and the International Television and Video Almanac. The Quigley publications are definitive references and are invaluable sources of information on studios, personnel, productions, box office performance, earnings and exhibitors.

Screen Daily

http://www.screendaily.com

News, box office reports, commentary, reviews, employment, festivals and more make this a good site for current information about the industry and films on current release. There is an enhanced subscription edition which is quite good, particularly for those who support the film industry in some way. It also has an interesting and rather eclectic set of links, many of which you would be hard-pressed to find on other sites.

Screen Digest

http://www.screendigest.com

As the site proclaims, this British site is the “pre-eminent source of business intelligence, research and analysis…” Most of the information is available only by purchasing reports compiled by the company, but there is serious news, press releases and the offer of a free trial of their monthly newsletter. A serious site for industry professionals.

Nielson EDI

http://www.entdata.com

Another serious site for serious people but it does publish official box office data. Many other sites carry this information but if you feel better getting it from the horse’s mouth, this is where to go. It also has an interesting Trivia page, which is much more grown-up than a lot of the trivia found elsewhere, and naturally most of the questions are about market performance and appeal.
