Cinematographer.com

http://www.uemedia.net/CPC/cinematographer

If you are a professional or budding cinematographer, bookmark this site. For the rest of the world, it is undoubtedly a bit obscure and irrelevant. News, forums, professional equipment information and employment are all present.

Exposure: The Complete Eejit’s Guide to Filmmaking

http://www.exposure.co.uk

‘Eijit’ – you must have figured out that an eejit is an idiot, and it isn’t hard to figure out that this is a fairly simple guide to low-budget filmmaking. Sadly, the site is not maintained and appears to have been update since 2004. On the positive side, that means there isn’t any hurry to read all the articles before they are replaced. There is worthwhile articles on the site, which justifies a look. Just don’t expect the discussion board to be too lively.

filmmaking.net

http://www.filmmaking.net

A great site for the aspiring filmmaker, which contains an impressive variety of articles, filmmaking tools and peripherals. Laudably, it does not restrict its scope to the US, but reaches out  for information and references to other countries, most notably, the United Kingdom.

Movie Maker

http://www.moviemaker.com

This is the online version of the magazine of the same name. The site is simple to navigate and contains a wealth of knowledge and help. You won’t learn everything you need to know from the magazine but you’ll quickly realise how much you don’t know, which is the best starting point for learning about anything.

Proletariat Pictures

http://www.proletariatpictures.com

Proletariat Pictures is an independent production company which also offers support through its web site to other small filmmakers trough articles, discussion forums and some practical advice. Its Guerrilla Filmmaking 101 series of article is informative, and worth reading. It has a respectable set of links and information on festivals and film commissions.

Screamin Reels

http://www.geocities.com/screaming_reels

Essentially a series of essays on the filmmaking process, from pre-production to distribution. It is not intended to be comprehensive or prescriptive; rather, it is intended to lay forth some basic guidelines and set the reader to thinking. With recommendations for films to see, forums and a potted history of film, it is a good place to start. You can also submit your comments. It isn’t very current, and it lacks a set of links for further research.

They Shoot Pictures, Don’t They?

http://www.theyshootpictures.com/index.htm

A homage to film directors. Over 700 directors are covered, though only basic information on each is presented. You will find better and more detailed information elsewhere, but it is concisely presented here and easily accessed. The great strength of this site is its wonderful collection of links, which is better than some of the online film directories. The articles and features are interesting, though at times the writing is undisciplined.

Women Make Movies

http://www.wmm.com

A resource for women filmmakers. The site contains a catalogue of films by women filmmakers; resources, including distribution help and sponsorship; educational resources; and facts and references about women and film.
